Scotland | Edinburgh Photo Essay

Edinburgh stole my heart over a few bitterly cold days in mid January. I fell in love with the architecture, history, culture, heritage and the people. Everywhere you turn there’s great pride in the city’s heritage. Even though I was there for five days I still didn’t get a chance to see everything I wanted to. It’s a great to excuse to return and return I will. I’m even thinking about studying my Masters in Edinburgh once I receive my Honours degree.

Have you been to Edinburgh? What did you think of the city? What’s your favourite thing about Edinburgh?Marteen Lane (4)

Join me on a tour of the beautiful city of Edinburgh with my photo essay.

    1. Thanks Sean ☺ I have a couple of more posts on Edinburgh in the pipeline. That’s a great list you have! Visiting the dungeons and climbing Calton Hill are on my list but I didn’t have time to do. I absolutely loved Edinburgh Castle.

  1. I have never been to Edinburgh but I would love to, it’s very high on my list to places to visit while living in the UK. Your photos are great and show how beautiful and charming the city is.

    1. I like to take my time and really experience a place when I’m travelling and not cram days with activities. It’s a good excuse so you can return ☺

  2. I’ve never been to Edinburgh, but it’s only my list! Your pics are beautiful. I love to see a city’s charm, history, and culture captured in a photo. I’m actually looking into purchasing a camera so I can take quality pics because my iPhone will only give me so much.

    1. Thank you ☺ I don’t have a camera and I can never take great photos with my phone or ipod so I borrowed my brother’s camera. It’s only a cheap Canon one but it did the job ☺

    1. Thank you Ariana ☺ I only stayed in Edinburgh itself and didn’t have time to tour the highlands but I picked up a brochure of a tour company based in Edinburgh who give 1, 2, and 3 day tours of the highlands. They go from Edinburgh city. They’re called Timberbush Tours and their website is http://www.timberbushtours.com. I hope that helps ☺

  3. We visited Edinburgh a few months ago, and for some reason we weren’t as charmed as everyone else seems to be. We did however enjoy the castle, and you have a lot of the same shots we took, like the dog cemetery! We love the highlands though and definitely recommend it. 🙂

    1. It would be a boring world if we all felt the same about everything 😊 I was worried that it wouldn’t live up to the hype but it did for me. I didn’t get a chance to tour the highlands but I definitely will the next time 😊

  4. I’ve not had the chance to see Edinburgh, but your photos are lovely. The architecture is stunning. After seeing these I can’t wait to see the city for myself one day…soon I hope.

  5. I love all your photos! The old architecture there would be so interesting to see. I’ve never been to Edinburgh but would love to. What was your favorite thing you did there? Did you end up choosing to do your Masters there?

    1. Visiting Edinburgh castle was my favourite thing I did. You get spectacular views from up there 😊 I’m in my final year of my degree and will take a year or two out for a break before I do my masters. Of course that could all change 😊
