About Me

Fáilte!  So I’m Marteen and this is my website Marteen Lane – Tour Guide & Cultural Heritage Writer.  I’m a tour guide from Ireland with a BA (Hons) in Heritage Studies.  I have a passion for Irish culture and heritage, with a special interest in women’s history and dark history, and I want to share that passion with you.  When I’m not travelling around my little country I’m travelling to other countries seeking cultural experiences.

It’s all go here as I’ve set up my own walking tours in one of my favourite cities, Galway.  I provide three unique walking tours: Women of Galway TourMedieval Galway Tour, and Galway Dark Tour.  I’ve also just started the Regional Guide Course where at the end I’ll be a Fáilte Ireland approved guide for the Galway/Clare region.

As the tagline states I’m also a cultural heritage writer and I’m working on pitching articles on travel, culture, and heritage to different publications as a freelance writer.  I believe that experiencing cultural heritage responsibly and expressing our own individual cultures is a human right.  But what is Cultural Heritage?  According to the Culture In Development website:

Cultural Heritage is an expression of the ways of living developed by a community and passed on from generation to generation, including customs, practices, places, objects, artistic expressions and values.  Cultural Heritage is often expressed as either Intangible or Tangible Cultural Heritage.

Who knows where my adventures will take me.  I hope you will join me on this journey and enjoy reading my posts.  If you would like me for freelance work, want to book me for a tour, or if you have any questions about Ireland, you can contact me at marteen.lane@gmail.com. Slán go fóill!

    1. Awww Rachel thank you so much! That really means a lot. That’s so cool you were sent to review the ebook! I’ve been blogging for over a year as a lifestyle blogger and recently rebranded as a travel blogger, new look and new name for blog 🙂 Best decision I made!

      1. I hope so 🙂 I’m loving your blog and just checked out your About page, that’s cool your fiance is also a tour guide.

      2. I work with The Quiet Man Museum in Cong. It’s been closed for the winter but is reopening next week. I show people around the locations that were used in the film and serve customers in the gift shop. I also give a ghost tour for the public and the PaddyWagon buses with the museum. I can’t wait to get back to work. We get a lot of PaddyWagon buses coming through the village and a lot of CIE buses book The Quiet Man tour. Patrick from PaddyWagon was create for rounding up the troops for the ghost tour 🙂
