About Me

Fáilte!  So I’m Marteen, and this is my website, Marteen Lane | Tourist Guide.  I’m a Galway-based regional tour guide from Co. Mayo with a BA (Hons) in Heritage Studies.  I have a passion for Ireland’s cultural heritage, and I want to share that passion with you here and on my social media accounts.  I also have a special interest in the Irish language and women’s history.

It’s all go here as I run my own walking tours in my adopted city of Galway.  As an approved regional guide and member of the Approved Tourists Guides of Ireland (ATGI), I offer two unique walking tours that aim to showcase Galway from different perspectives.  HerGalway Walking Tour tells the stories of remarkable women from all walks of life associated with Galway.  Medieval Galway Tour transports the visitor back to medieval Galway, where they can still see the remnants of that period in history around the city. These walking tours can also be run as private tours on request.  I’m also qualified to act as a hop-on guide for bus tours.  I cover Co. Galway all the down to the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher.

    1. Awww Rachel thank you so much! That really means a lot. That’s so cool you were sent to review the ebook! I’ve been blogging for over a year as a lifestyle blogger and recently rebranded as a travel blogger, new look and new name for blog 🙂 Best decision I made!

      2. I work with The Quiet Man Museum in Cong. It’s been closed for the winter but is reopening next week. I show people around the locations that were used in the film and serve customers in the gift shop. I also give a ghost tour for the public and the PaddyWagon buses with the museum. I can’t wait to get back to work. We get a lot of PaddyWagon buses coming through the village and a lot of CIE buses book The Quiet Man tour. Patrick from PaddyWagon was create for rounding up the troops for the ghost tour 🙂

      1. Ah that’s a pity! It isn’t easy getting over. There’ve been a few blogging events in Dublin that I haven’t been able to make. Yeah hopefully next year 😊

  1. Hi,

Just discovered you, looks like a family photo too, absolute dead ringer for our daughter. Just called my WFH husband to check.

Looking forward to reading much more. According to UK census records, some of my family were fairly creative with the truth, especially when it came to where their children were born. Co Mayo isn’t in Leeds, and Esther O’Neill is my pen name, a variation on my real name. .
