Moore Hall is situated to the south of the village of Carnacon in Co. Mayo, lying on Muckloon Hill over looking Lough Carra. It was once the home of George Moore and his family. The Moores were a family of sportsmen, patriots, statesmen, writers, and artists. The house was built in 1795 but destroyed by a fire in 1923. Today the house, estate, lake, and farm are owned by the forestry company, Coillte. The house itself is still in ruin so the public aren’t allowed to go inside the house. However, Moore Hall has many visitors each year who come to admire what’s left of this big house and the locals enjoy the walking trails around the grounds.

It’s a pity public is not allowed inside – it would probably be good place for photos 🙂
Wonderful photos. There are two that instantly became my favorites. The ruins of the house against blues skies are picture-perfect! The dreamy trees covered with bright green moss look almost like watercolor.
Great photos! That house looks so cool, would love to visit.
How absolutely gorgeous – love the walking trails. Very interesting history as well. Thanks for sharing:)
I love photo essays. It allows for the viewers to let their imagination take them through the unknown.
Looks nice and thanks for sharing! @ knycx.journeying
Exactly! 😊
Thank you 😊
Thank you 😊 Yes the picture with the trees is covered in moss does look like a watercolour. The woodland is gorgeous there 😊
You can walk right up to the house and walk around the perimeter but it’s more for safety as it is a ruin and to protect what’s left of the building that people aren’t allowed inside.
This pictures are beautiful. Traveling is really a wonderful thing to do.
Thank you 😊
BEAUTIFUL DAY
It was Alicia 😊
There’s something about the water that is always so calming. You captured that spirit perfectly with your photos.
Looks like a lovely spot! Too bad you can’t go inside the building!

Some amazing pictures there. I work for an travel agent and see so many beautiful properties over in Ireland. This may have just swayed me to book something soon. 🙂
Is that the facade of the old house? It is so interesting to see! Too bad it is in ruins as it looks like it would have been an impressive house!
It looks like nice place to explore. Beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing!
looks like an incredible place to get some peace and quiet. i love your picture of the stained novel, so amazing ❤ house must have been wonderful!
I love Ireland. This looks like a lovely spot. I’ve only visited a few spots close to Dublin. Would love to get back and explore more. This is my inspiration!

Thank you Alexa 😊 There is definitely more to explore. I hope you get to come back 😊
It is! I know, that was unexpected. It was just lying there on the ground and I thought it would be an interesting object to take a picture of 😊
Yes it is! It was burnt down during the Irish war of independence, and it was never restored.
Get over here! You’ll always be welcome 😊
Ireland seems to be an amazing place to visit. Its on to my list now 🙂
It is! I’m glad ☺
Lovely pictures! Really like the water and the nature
I’ve never heard of Moore Hall before but your photos show it as a beautiful place to visit. Shame one can’t enter but the grounds / exterior is appealing nonetheless.
Thank you Kavita 😊
Thank you Melanie 😊
Great photo essay! Especially love the photo of the sunset with the boats. I love wandering around historic estates such as this … so many photo opportunities and moments to just sit and listen to history in the wind.
Thanks Michael 😊
Great photos, I love the lake and the forest around the house. Looks like a lovely place to visit.
Did you do the walking trails? I think that would be a great way to see the grounds! And also my favorite way to explore an area
Moore Hall has an air of mystery about it. I don’t know why it reminds me of Daphne Du Maurier’s Rebecca. Is that a heart engraved on stone?
How interesting it reminds you of that 😊 I drew that heart in the sand.
I did, I’m lucky to leave near this place 😊
Ireland has so many beautiful places to explore. The house and the setting are very scenic. I can see why you made it into a photo essay.
It’s so pretty! Even if you can’t get inside, exploring the grounds and the building from afar would still be quite fascinating! Looks like a perfect place to spend an afternoon.
What a stunning location. It looks so peaceful. I especially love the pictures with the moss on the trees and the moss on the Hall.
